These "Smart Transducers" or "Intelliducers" are stand alone in that they carry out their designed function, ie: depth sensing, speed sensing, weather conditions etc.  They then translate the information they gather and put it onto the NMEA 2000 bus for interpretation by dedicated NMEA2000 multi function displays (MFDs) or NMEA2000 certified chart plotters.  An example an integrated system is below.
